ok so heres the deal we will no longer be having STM parties at Callahans
because; The sound guy refuses to opperate the PA (sound system... for the young bucks out there) my only option is to buy a PA and we can continue to throw parties... i'm not buying a damn PA
Callahans is a blues bar not a night club... if we blow the speakers that ruins business for their functions that support the bar and keep their doors open... compared to the two nights a month we were having parties there
so heres the deal... at first it wasn't an issue... i made it very clear we were to respect the sound guy if we wanted to keep hip-hop in the hearts of a bar that supported us and never had a bad thing to say about our functions.
some people did not take my advice (cause what do I know right? right...) the past two functions, and i won't name any names, but people vocally in front of the crowd on the mic demanded things like, Bass to be turned up... or ordering the sound guy around to skip through their tracks.
lesson 1: CD-R's cost like 30 cents buy a couple and organize your tracks in the order you want your set list... the sound guy's job is not to be your DJ ... you wanna get fresh with it go to your studio you record at and track your set list as one track thats what i do when i get booked for a gig!!!... just a smart idea so you have no one to blame but yourself .... i know for a fact Royalty is up on that TIP!!!
lesson 2: it is disrespectful to tell the sound guy (and i keep saying sound guy because this is a universal lesson but learn his name atleast in this instance it's PJ or Pete) how to do his job while your infront of a bar full of people... "hey man turn the bass up" or "i can't hear myself turn the mic up" ... i noticed alot of people havn't learned mic presence ...you need to put that mic right on your mouth don't worry none of the other emcee's got the plauge ... we can't do sound checks for every MC
so look... Callahans is not Joe Louis Arena or the Fox or St. Andrews your not going to get everything you want out of a sound system created for traveling Blues acts or "Blues Travelers" LOL personally i thought it was a great venue we had quality stage lights and the sound was "good enough" and by good enough let me tell a story about my first few years as a performer
my first concert was some house party with one of those bootleg home stereo's with turn tables and a mic... as i progressed it got a little better
i played the back of some bookstore with like one speaker working on the PA
i played a coffee shop with like a 200 watt PA (thats not good at all LOL...speakers were cardboard)
i've played dive bars from hamtramck to flint ... none of these places even had monitors
and none of them were as well outfitted as Callahans
in these times we need to be thankful for the love we are shown... i personally have to take major issue with this after i kept reminded EVERYONE to respect the sound guy ... not only did you screw me out of a couple bucks i was making to organize this party (which i need since my hours at work are dwindling) ... you screwed yourselves out of opportunities to perform at Auburn Hills only hip-hop night .... you screwed Hip-Hop... thats right i said it you fucked over hip-hop music
ask anyone whos been doing this long enough WE (the hip-hop community) don't have enough venues out here supporting us.... If i could i'd throw Rock n' Roll shows... then i wouldn't have to deal with the ego's of people who have a fraction of the stage experience I have (remind you my first concert was 8 years ago... ) BUT i don't throw rock n' roll shows (if i was smart i would thats where the real money is) i do it cause i love hip-hop and i love all the young artists (no-homo) out there... doing this for the love of music... cause thats what it's all about not being a tough guy on stage or acting cool MAN it's about Saving the 'goddamn" Music
I hope this is a lesson learned... and i'm not salty about it cause in my opinion you win some you lose some. If you can learn from this that is more rewarding than any money or fame that could have come of this party. So read listen and learn
until my next party endevour lets all do our parts to Save the Music
so main moral to take away: be very mindful and humble with the people who work at the places you perform you might never know what kinds of negative or positive effects your actions may bring
peace,
Robo

go to meijers and buy food instead of fastfood after a long night out,
no more starbucks... i know they are fair to their employees but it's too much $

thats all i can remember right there but theres simple little things i'm doing to save a bunch of money and pay off debt... fuck consumerism don't be fooled... i was.... i'm trying to break the habbit...
on a final note i don't know if i said this but don't believe the hype the media is all tied in or miss interpreting the facts
fact: most people in america don't make a living wage.
fact: 1% of the nations population owns 40% of the wealth
fact: the news tells stories everyday about people graciously taking pay cuts to keep their jobs
conclusion: don't believe the hype all the major media is owned by one of those people who are amongst the %1... CNN infers that YOU should be thankful for the little your making keepings class hostilities under wrap... when in fact.... there is enough money there to give people the baisic nessecsities ... people act right what do you need with a billion dollars if your not going to do good with it you can't take that shit with you!!!
peace i'll talk to you sooon

GOODBYE 2008
wow so it's 2009... i guess this is kinda late but i just am now getting a moment to reflect. i guess you take the good with the bad. it's wierd but i have had some of my most triumphant and happy moments in 2008 along with some of my saddest. to bring in the 2008 year I was at Pato's (the kid is about to be a giant dont anyone sleep on it). I left Pato's and it was a blizzard (if you were in michigan last NYE i'm sure you remember) and i went to bed thinking "This is your year Robo... big things!!!"
ok just a list of somethings that happened in 2008
-my mom starts her early retirement after being "downsized"
-quit my job @ Penn Station
-got a job at Chicago Bros. Pizza (the first place i was ever employed back in H.S. i make far less money but i am much happier)
-get an iPhone
- my grandpa died :( R.I.P. he saved my life... foreal there would be no robo without him
-KR and J. Fin join Robo-Robb Radio permenantly
-I experienced love for the first time :(
-Me and Moonchild finish our first studio project; Save the Music!!!
-go on my first vacation in 6 years (DC, NYC, Montreal)
-get a write up on KevinNottingham.com
-made URB's Next 1000 list !!!!
-my grandma died :(...but she got to spend xmas with my grandpa
this year was amazing for me and i cannot wait to see what next years list looks like. but on NYE at some local bar i experienced a couple things that gave me purpose
1. run into some dude, violent dude, i used to know from way back talking about how much trouble he was in... please leave me alone... we all need to stop acting so hard... fuck you... kids in Sri Lanka make you all look like wimps
2. some rich kid i went to school with upset his dads gotta pay a lil more taxes, using the N-bomb... motherfucker you are ignorant*... stop listening to the ying yang twins if you got so much hatred in your soul ... spoiled ass
i feel i now have major steps to take to help these morons cause someone needs to save their souls... they are seriously a bad look for our community
note*
that rich kid who is upset his dad will pay more in taxes must understand... the goverment and media use words like recession to get YOU (non-rich people) feeling gratefull to be employed. If you do not make a living wage fuck your circumstance. when the media portrays union workers as greedy for making 30 bucks an hour (even proposing they give up a dime in wages).... they are fucking stupid... you as a human being have a right to be paid enough to survive... but many people in many industries do not.
so back to my point... this country has been dominated by the employer not the worker for too long... businesses have taken advantage of your hard work because like the media and goverment says "you should be gratefull to have that job in these hard times" ... well fuck that! these businesses should be gratefull to have your brainwashed ass thinking 7.50 per hour is all they can afford to pay you... if you work at a place that is closing down i am really sorry... there are too many businesses that serve no purpose and... well some of them really need to shut down... if all you sell is snow globes close your doors and save yourself some overhead put that stuff on ebay... and as for the business owner who pays you 7.50 an hour... my friend that is the mofuckers father who got me to write this in the first place.... do a good job and take care of your employees and the people wouldn't have voted for obama
goodnight and happy 2009
